I'm nearly 50 and breaking out like a teenager.
Why this is happening
Adult acne in your late thirties, forties and fifties isn't a rerun of your teens, and it has nothing to do with how clean your skin is. As oestrogen falls, the balance between oestrogen and androgens tips — and that relatively higher androgen activity drives oil, blocked pores and inflammation, usually along the jawline, chin and neck. Stress, poor sleep, blood sugar swings and some hormonal treatments all add to it. It's genuinely hormonal, it's genuinely common, and it responds far better to a hormonal approach than to yet another spot cream.
Your options
A proper look at your skin, your hormones and what's really driving the breakouts.
Prescribed actives that actually work — not shelves of things that don't.
Clear congestion, calm inflammation, improve texture.
Blue light targets the acne bacteria; yellow calms the inflammation around it.
If this arrived alongside other midlife changes, we treat the cause, not just the skin.
A word from me
This is the clearest example I know of why skin and hormones can't be treated separately. Breakouts arriving for the first time in your forties are a message about what's happening inside — and sorting the hormonal picture often does more for your skin than anything you put on it. And once the acne itself has settled, we can treat any marks or scarring it's left behind.
